The upgrading of the SH67 Waimangaroa River Bridge project required Hunter Civil to complete the strengthening of the existing piles/pile caps and installing rock armouring to the existing banks.

The works involve installing 1050 mm diameter bored piles to a depth of 22m at the end of each existing pile cap. The new piles extend out of the ground and get incorporated into the existing pile caps via a reinforced concrete “skin” encasement. To incorporate the piles into the existing cap, many reinforcement bars must be drilled into or grouted through the pile caps. After the completion of works, the bridge foundation will be strengthened and better protected for years ahead.
