METRO SPORTS COMPLEX

WASTEWATER - CHCH

Between the two individual sheet pile pits, a steel pipe was ‘pipe rammed’ at a depth of 3m by a specialist subcontractor. The reason for pipe ramming was to create a duct under the footpath, shoulder of the road and the large number of existing services above the rammed pipe which would have made traditional pipe installation methods tricky.

The Southern Relief was then diverted by means of bypass pumping, the pipeline broke into and a new in-situ concrete Diversion Chamber and Pump Station was built, along with associated pipework.

Hunter Civil worked on this project under careful supervision by CPB Contractors who are the head contractor for the new large-scale multi-sport complex project in Christchurch.

Hunter Civil was engaged as a Sub Contractor by Ryan Contractors who in turn were subcontractors to CPB to complete part of the heat recovery wastewater system for the new Metro Sports Complex.

The scope of the works involved temporary works design and sheet pile installation for two large pits, one for the Diversion Chamber over the DN1050 Southern Relief Sewer Main and the second for the Wet Well Pump Station and thrust pit. Following the Sheetpiling the pits were then excavated and dewatering systems installed.
